HomePod Mini

Control all your compatible Apple devices, talk to family members in other rooms, and enjoy full Siri functionality with the space gray Apple HomePod mini. It connects to your wireless network to provide control of, and access to, all of your HomeKit-compatible devices. It will play music, check the weather and traffic, tell you sports scores, control your compatible smart home equipment, and more with Siri. Using a far-field four-microphone array, the HomePod mini can perform the requested task in an instant. Siri can be activated with the words "Hey Siri" or by touching and holding the touch surface. With Siri, a variety of features work across the HomePod mini and other compatible devices for full integration into your Apple ecosystem.

360° Audio

At just 3.3" tall, the HomePod mini takes up minimal space and is designed to fill the room with 360° audio for enhanced sound from nearly any angle. The acoustic waveguide directs sound out the bottom of the speaker to create the 360° audio field for consistent audio virtually everywhere in the room.

Computational Audio

The Apple S5 chip enables computational audio, which processes complex algorithms in real time to help produce balanced, fine-tuned sound at nearly any volume and provide the full, detailed tones of a larger speaker without missing your voice commands. The full-range driver uses a powerful neodymium magnet to deliver deep bass and crisp high frequencies.

Bass Extension

The force-canceling passive radiators help extend the bass response of the HomePod mini.

Noise Cancellation

Four microphones work together to help cancel noise and listen for your "Hey Siri" command, so even if your environment is loud, you don't have to turn the volume down or move closer to the speaker to be heard.

Designed to Fit Nearly Anywhere

The HomePod mini is wrapped in a seamless mesh fabric that's virtually transparent to the sound passing through it. A backlit touch surface on the top provides quick touch control.

Expandable Design

With multiple HomePod mini or AirPlay 2-compatible speakers placed around the house, you can have a connected sound system for your whole home. Ask Siri to play one song everywhere or a different song in each room. The speaker also works with the HomePod for multiroom audio and features like Intercom.

Stereo Pairing

If you want to take the sound experience even further, you can connect two HomePod mini speakers in the same room to create a stereo pair for discrete left and right channels and a more immersive soundstage.

Siri Voice Assistant

Whether you need a hand with various everyday tasks, want control over your smart home accessories, or want to hear your favorite song, you can just ask Siri. Siri can recognize the voices of up to six different family members on the HomePod mini and create a personalized experience for each person, so everyone hears their own music when they ask for it. With Personal Requests, Siri can recognize a particular voice and relay that person's information from iPhone apps like Messages, Calendar, Reminders, and Contacts.

Intercom Spreads the Word

With more than one HomePod in the house, you can communicate with your family members using the Intercom function. Ask Siri to send your message to the whole house, or to individual rooms, and everyone can respond. Intercom also works with your other compatible Apple devices, so you can send and receive messages through CarPlay while you're driving, on your AirPods during a workout, or with your Apple Watch while you're running errands.

Designed for Easy Connection, Setup, and Control

Getting set up and staying connected from anywhere is designed to be easy with the Home app and the HomePod mini. When you set it up, it's automatically added to the Home app, and you can instantly control any of your HomeKit devices with just your voice. The HomePod mini can also act as a home hub, letting you control your HomeKit accessories remotely, see a live view from the front door, close your garage door, and lock or unlock doors through the Home app.

Engineered to Protect Your Privacy

The HomePod mini only listens for "Hey Siri," so you can speak freely knowing that nothing you say is sent out of your home until you activate Siri, whether with a touch or with the words, "Hey Siri." When you ask Siri something, your request is associated with a random identifier, not your Apple ID. With HomeKit Secure Video support, the HomePod mini can analyze the feeds of your supported video cameras, detecting the presence of people and recognizing familiar faces, pets, and cars. All the video processing is done on the device before it's sent via end-to-end encryption to the iCloud, so your recordings are only seen by you and those you share them with, not Apple. The speaker also works with your iPhone for requests like hearing your messages or notes, so they're completed on the device without revealing the information to Apple.

Works with Your Apple Devices

Pick up an incoming call from your iPhone, listen to music on your Mac, or upgrade your TV experience by taking the sound from your Apple TV, all through the HomePod mini. You can switch audio playback from the HomePod mini to your iPhone by simply bringing your iPhone close to the speaker. Following a scheduled future firmware update, you'll feel the connection between your iPhone and the HomePod mini via haptic feedback, as well as personalized listening suggestions via your iPhone when you hold it near the HomePod mini, providing instant control without having to unlock your iPhone.

HomePod Mini

Speakers determine the overall sound quality of your system, so it is definitely worth spending some extra time listening to a few models before making a purchase decision. Modern day speakers come with varieties of features, some you may need, some are not worth your extra bucks. Here, we have prepared a buying guide for you to let you know everything you need before choosing a speaker for your system.

Wireless vs. Wired

One of the most frequent questions we get asked is whether someone should buy wired speakers, or wireless, so we find it necessary to discuss the pros and cons of each. Since features like Bluetooth and Wifi became common, manufacturers are slowly tilting toward wireless feature relieving us from the cable clutter, along with bringing gradual improvement in the sound quality. Wired speakers still dominate with proponents saying that wired speakers deliver far better sound quality compared to the wireless ones.

Since the wireless speakers started penetrating into the market, it was widely accepted that their wired counterpart delivers comparatively better sound quality. The reasoning for this is quite simple. It is much easier to transmit a greater amount of electrical data through a physical wire than sending it on a wireless signal. More data means greater audio fidelity, which is quite difficult to reach for wireless devices.

However, wireless speakers have shown great promise with technological advancement. The gap between the sound quality of wired and wireless speakers is a lot narrower than it used to be. Let’s dive into the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Wired Speakers: Pros and Cons

The biggest advantage of wired speakers actually has nothing to do with sound quality. The biggest advantage is about control. Wired speakers give you a lot of control on some of the aspects like sound. Whatever system you are using to stream the audio, you will need a digital to analog converter and an amplifier if you want to boost the analog signals.

This will have a huge impact on the sound, something you do not get in the wireless speakers. The thing you need to consider is that you may need to purchase these components separately thus a higher cost for you.

Wired speakers are also very easy to use unless you’re simply hopeless with technology because you will need to connect the cables to the different components.

Wired speakers give stable connection, and are cheaper than wireless speakers.

That doesn't mean they don't have downsides. Chief among these is that you will have to deal with wires – obviously. For some, a collection of snaking cables can be a real annoyance, an annoyance which can be multiplied if you happen to be setting up are full surround sound system. We’ll talk about the difference that expensive cables can make below.

The second major downside is that you will need to do a little bit of calculation when making your purchase, to ensure that the speakers are correctly matched to the power level of your amplifier. You don’t need to stress too much about this – you have to work quite hard to blow your speakers – but it is something that you need to do.

To sum up: you should buy wired speakers if you want precise control over your sound, if you want to be able to swap out components in the future, and if you’re okay with having a few wires lying around.

Wireless Speakers: Pros and Cons

The main advantage of wireless speakers is it allows you to have a speaker system that does not use any wires to function. All you need to do is plug in your speaker, connecting it to a wall outlet (or not, if it’s battery driven), then hook it up to your sound source via WiFi or Bluetooth, and you’re away. For us, this is absolutely the best reason to own a wireless speaker. It is so unbelievably easy.

Wireless speakers enable you to pair up a large number of speakers all around the house for better sound.

The main disadvantage is that you do not have any control over the amplifier or the conversion.

You also need to take into consideration that if there is a power switch or a power cut out, you cannot use them. It can also abruptly disconnect from the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth then you have to start the reconnection process again.

Since wireless speakers depend on wireless data transfer, it requires compression to be done which could lead to poor sound quality.

They are often more expensive than wired speakers, and some require a level of cabling because the main speaker has to be connected to a power supply and then you wirelessly connect it to the other speakers.

You also have to be careful about the range and anything that may interfere with the signal transfer. Some things like walls or corners can interfere with the transfer of data, and you’ll be unable to enjoy the sound without interference.

So where does that leave you? When would you buy a wireless speaker? Well, you go for one (or several) if you want an easy, efficient sound system that will fit seamlessly into your existing gadget ecosystem, without any hassle or additional equipment.
