Safer Internet Day celebrated under the slogan “Together for a better internet”

February 8, 2022, Safer Internet Day was celebrated all over the world. The day was celebrated under the familiar slogan “Together for a better internet”. The main goal of this day is to bring together all the internet-related partners under an umbrella to make this huge world of internet safe and effective, especially for children and youth.

The European Commission and the European Safer Internet Center's Insafe and INHOPE Network are the organizers of this day. The main task of the Insafe and INHOPE Network division is to create a space for partners in the global Internet world, where they can lead the complex, creative and responsible work of digital technology.

According to several news media outlets, this year marks its 19th successful year of celebration. The main goal this time is to ensure a safe internet for everyone. In addition to this core work, another task this time around is to reduce the rate of harm to children and young people using the Internet.

However, the day is mainly for the youth, parents, teachers, children, politicians, and decision makers. More than 200 countries are participating in this campaign.

Technology experts say that in the context of Bangladesh, the Internet is becoming insecure mainly due to lack of digital literacy or knowledge. Sometimes criminals unknowingly spread harmful content on the Internet, and sometimes victims unknowingly make their own Internet use unsafe.

By the way, the European Union's Saferborders Project initiated this day in 2004. One year later, UNICEF took over the network. It was initially limited to their own territories but later spread to over 200 countries worldwide. Meanwhile, the importance increases during the pandemic situation. The day raises awareness against various contemporary issues related to cyber bullying, digital identity, and other social networking.
