Caller ID

What is Caller ID?

Caller ID is a feature used in telephony that allows the person receiving a call to see the phone number and/or name of the person calling before answering the call.

Caller ID information is transmitted through the phone network and displayed on the receiving phone's screen or caller ID device. Caller ID has become a standard feature on most landline and mobile phones, and is used to identify incoming calls and screen unwanted calls. Many phones and caller ID devices also allow users to block or reject calls from specific numbers or unknown numbers. In addition to displaying phone numbers, some caller ID services also display the name of the person or organization associated with the phone number. This feature can be useful in identifying business calls or incoming calls from unknown numbers. However, it's important to note that some callers may choose to block their caller ID information, making it impossible to identify the source of the call. Additionally, some Caller ID displays can be spoofed by using special software or services to disguise the phone number and/or name displayed on the receiving phone. Overall, Caller ID is a useful tool for identifying and screening incoming calls, but it's important to remain cautious and aware of potential spoofing or privacy concerns.
