Cardioid

What is Cardioid?

Cardioid is a term used to describe a directional polar pattern that is commonly used in microphones.

It refers to the shape of the pickup pattern, which is heart-shaped, and is designed to pick up sound primarily from the front of the microphone while minimizing sound from the sides and rear. This directional pickup pattern is useful for recording situations where you want to isolate the sound source from surrounding noise or other sources. Cardioid microphones are commonly used for recording vocals, acoustic guitars, and other instruments where isolation is important.
