Drum Unit

What is Drum Unit?

A drum unit is a component in a laser printer or copier that is responsible for transferring toner onto the paper to create an image.

The drum unit consists of a cylindrical drum that is coated with a photoconductive material. The drum is charged with a static electrical charge, and then a laser beam is used to selectively discharge areas of the drum corresponding to the image being printed. The discharged areas attract toner particles, which are then transferred to the paper as it passes over the drum. The drum unit typically needs to be replaced periodically, as the photoconductive coating can wear out over time or become contaminated with toner or debris. The lifespan of a drum unit can vary depending on the printer or copier model and the amount of printing being done.
