Fax Machine

What is Fax Machine?

A fax machine is an electronic device that is used to send and receive documents over a telephone line.

It works by scanning a paper document and then transmitting the scanned image over a phone line to a receiving fax machine, where the image is printed onto paper. Fax machines were once a common way to send and receive documents, but with the rise of email and digital technologies, their use has declined. However, they are still used in many industries, particularly in healthcare, legal, and government sectors, where physical signatures and paper documents are still required. Fax machines come in various sizes and types, including stand-alone machines and multifunction printers that can also scan, copy, and print. They can also operate over analog phone lines or through the internet using a fax over IP (FoIP) service. While fax machines are generally considered to be less efficient and secure than digital communication methods, they are still a reliable option for sending and receiving important documents, particularly in industries where paper documentation is required for legal or regulatory purposes.
