What is HEVC?

HEVC (High Efficiency Video Codec), also known as H.265, is a video compression standard that is designed to achieve higher video quality at lower bit rates than previous video compression standards, such as H.264.

HEVC achieves this by using advanced compression techniques, such as larger block sizes, improved motion compensation, and better prediction algorithms. These techniques enable HEVC to compress video files to smaller sizes without sacrificing image quality. HEVC is widely used in modern video recording devices, such as smartphones, action cameras, and drones. It is also used for streaming high-quality video content over the internet, such as 4K and 8K video. While HEVC offers many advantages over previous video compression standards, it also requires more processing power to decode and encode video files. This can be a limiting factor on older devices or devices with limited processing power.
