What is Number of Axes?

The number of axes typically refers to the number of dimensions or directions in which a device or object can move or rotate.

In the context of cameras, drones, and other devices with gyroscopes or accelerometers, the number of axes typically refers to the number of degrees of freedom in which the device can move or rotate. For example, a camera with two axes of stabilization can compensate for movement along the pitch and yaw axes, but not the roll axis. A camera with three axes of stabilization can compensate for movement along all three axes (pitch, yaw, and roll) for smoother and more stable footage. Similarly, a drone with three axes of movement (pitch, roll, and yaw) can fly forward/backward, left/right, and rotate around its vertical axis. A drone with six axes of movement adds the ability to ascend/descend and rotate around its horizontal axis for greater flexibility and control.
