Prime Lens

What is Prime Lens?

A prime lens, also known as a fixed focal length lens, is a type of camera lens that has a fixed focal length and cannot zoom in or out.

This means that the lens has a single, specific focal length, such as 50mm or 85mm, which cannot be changed. Prime lenses are often favored by photographers because they typically produce sharper images than zoom lenses, and they often have wider apertures, allowing for better low-light performance and more creative control over depth of field. They are also typically lighter and more compact than zoom lenses, making them easier to carry and handle. However, the downside of prime lenses is that they do not offer the versatility of zoom lenses, which can cover a range of focal lengths. This means that photographers may need to carry multiple prime lenses with different focal lengths to cover a wide range of shooting situations.
