What is PWM Control?

PWM stands for Pulse Width Modulation, which is a technique used to control the speed of a fan by varying the amount of power supplied to it.

In PWM control of a case fan, the fan speed is regulated by adjusting the duty cycle of the voltage that is applied to the fan. The duty cycle refers to the percentage of time that the voltage is switched on compared to the total time period of the signal. For example, a duty cycle of 50% means that the voltage is switched on for half of the time and switched off for the other half. By adjusting the duty cycle of the voltage supplied to the fan, the speed of the fan can be controlled. In PWM control of a case fan, a controller circuit is used to generate the PWM signal. This signal is then applied to the fan, which adjusts its speed based on the duty cycle of the signal. PWM control of case fans is commonly used in PC cooling systems, where it allows for precise control over fan speed and noise levels.
