SATA

What is SATA?

SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) is a type of interface used to connect storage devices, such as hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs), to a computer's motherboard.

It replaced the older IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) interface, which used a parallel connection. SATA is a serial interface, meaning that data is transmitted one bit at a time over a single cable, as opposed to parallel interfaces that transmit multiple bits simultaneously over multiple cables. This allows for higher data transfer rates and reduces cable clutter inside the computer case. SATA comes in several different versions, with each version offering higher data transfer rates than the previous one. The most common version is SATA III, which supports data transfer rates of up to 6 Gbps. Overall, SATA has become the standard interface for connecting storage devices to computers, and it has played a significant role in improving the speed and performance of modern computer systems.
