SpO2 Monitor

What is SpO2 Monitor?

An SpO2 monitor is a device used to measure the oxygen saturation level in a person's blood.

Oxygen saturation, or SpO2, refers to the percentage of oxygen-bound hemoglobin in the blood compared to the total hemoglobin available. SpO2 monitors typically use a non-invasive method, such as a finger pulse oximeter or a wearable device, to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood. The device works by emitting light of two different wavelengths through the skin and measuring the amount of light that is absorbed by the blood. Oxygenated hemoglobin and deoxygenated hemoglobin absorb light differently, allowing the device to calculate the oxygen saturation level. The SpO2 monitor displays the oxygen saturation level as a percentage, with normal levels typically ranging from 95% to 100%. SpO2 monitoring is commonly used in medical settings to monitor patients with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, such as COPD or heart failure. It is also becoming increasingly popular in wearable fitness and health tracking devices as a way to monitor fitness levels and prevent overexertion during exercise.
