TRIM Support

What is TRIM Support?

TRIM is a command that is used to help improve the performance and lifespan of SSDs (Solid State Drives) by allowing the operating system to inform the drive which blocks of data are no longer in use and can be erased.

When data is deleted or moved from an SSD, the blocks of data that previously held that information are marked as free and can be reused for new data. However, if the drive is not informed that the data is no longer in use, it may not immediately erase those blocks, which can cause performance degradation over time. TRIM support is a feature that allows the operating system to inform the SSD which blocks of data are no longer in use and can be erased, which helps to improve the overall performance and lifespan of the drive. HDDs do not typically require TRIM support, as they do not suffer from the same performance degradation issues as SSDs. However, some newer HDDs may support a similar feature called "Trim-like" command, which can help improve performance in certain scenarios.
