WPA

What is WPA?

WPA stands for Wi-Fi Protected Access, which is a wireless security protocol used to secure wireless networks.

It was introduced in 2003 as a replacement for the vulnerable WEP protocol. WPA uses stronger encryption methods and provides better security than WEP. It uses a pre-shared key or a server-based authentication system to secure the wireless network. The pre-shared key is a password that is shared between the wireless access point and the wireless devices, while the server-based authentication system uses a RADIUS server to authenticate wireless devices. WPA also introduced a feature called TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol), which dynamically generates and changes keys during data transmission. This helps to prevent replay attacks and protect against data theft. One limitation of WPA is that it can be vulnerable to certain types of attacks, such as brute-force attacks and dictionary attacks. As a result, WPA has been replaced by the more secure WPA2 protocol. In summary, WPA is a wireless security protocol used to secure wireless networks. It provides stronger encryption and better security than the vulnerable WEP protocol, and uses a pre-shared key or server-based authentication system. However, WPA can be vulnerable to certain types of attacks and has been replaced by the more secure WPA2 protocol.
