What is Bobbin?

A bobbin is a small spool or reel that holds thread for use in a sewing machine.

The bobbin is typically located underneath the sewing machine's needle and is used in conjunction with the upper thread to create stitches in fabric or other materials. To use a bobbin, the user first winds the thread around the spool, ensuring that the thread is wound evenly and tightly. As the sewing machine operates, the needle and bobbin thread are pulled together through the fabric, creating a stitch. The bobbin thread is typically used as the "bottom thread" in the stitch, while the upper thread is used as the "top thread." The tension between the two threads is carefully balanced to ensure even, secure stitches. Bobbin size and style can vary depending on the make and model of the sewing machine, as well as the type of thread being used.
