TDP

What is TDP?

TDP stands for "Thermal Design Power" and refers to the maximum amount of heat that a computer component, such as a processor or graphics card, is designed to dissipate when operating under a heavy workload.

The TDP of a rack server typically refers to the maximum amount of heat that the server's processor(s) generate under heavy use. It is an important specification to consider when designing a server environment, as it determines the amount of cooling required to maintain stable operating temperatures. When selecting a rack server, it is important to ensure that the TDP of the processor(s) is compatible with the cooling system in place and that the system can handle the anticipated workload without overheating. Failure to properly account for TDP can result in reduced performance, system instability, and even hardware damage.
