What is Static Pressure Air flow?

Static Pressure refers to the amount of force that an air stream applies to an object in its path, perpendicular to the flow direction.

In the context of casing fans, static pressure is a measure of the fan's ability to push or pull air through a confined space, such as a computer case. When a fan is operating, it generates airflow and resistance to that airflow. The resistance could come from the obstruction inside the case like heatsinks, hard drives, or other components. The amount of resistance the fan is working against is known as static pressure. A casing fan with high static pressure can push or pull air more effectively through restrictive spaces, such as a dense heatsink, a radiator, or a dust filter. In contrast, a fan with low static pressure may struggle to move air through such obstructions, resulting in reduced cooling performance and potential overheating of the components.
