Buffer

What is Buffer?

A buffer or cache is a temporary storage area used to speed up data access and transfer.

In an HDD, the buffer is a small amount of high-speed memory that temporarily stores data being read from or written to the hard disk. In an SSD, the buffer is integrated into the drive's controller and is used to manage storage and temporarily store frequently accessed data. The size of the buffer in an HDD is smaller, typically a few megabytes, while in an SSD, it can range from a few gigabytes to tens of gigabytes. The presence of a buffer improves the performance of both SSDs and HDDs.
